Illegal mining, with the use of mercury, is polluting water sources, affecting the basis of food security. Indigenous leaders  demand to be recognized as ancestral protectors of the Amazon rainforest. In addition, they show the lack of inclusion in national discussions on environmental protection and claim the State for immediate action; because their territories and ways of life are suffering irreparable damage. Researchers assure that 80% of biodiversity is protected by indigenous people, confirming the importance of its conservation in the midst of the climate crisis that we are experiencing.
